Sunday Nature Ride

18 July 2021

Today we got the wheels down a little earlier but stayed local.  One of our go-to spots are the trails at Exploration Green https://www.explorationgreen.org/.  This is a former golf course surrounded by residential areas.  There are major drainage ways in this area and Exploration Green was created for the primary purpose of stormwater detention.  Nearly 200 acres of the former golf course open green space was converted into a series of detention ponds. When local developers expressed interest in turning the area in to a massive commercial development, residents in the community approached the local water authority to retain the area as green space and stormwater retention to control flooding. Public funding was obtained and the land was extracted from the hands of greedy developers.  A great win for the community.  Other community groups, such as the Exploration Green Conservancy, have planted native vegetation and made a quite nice nature park.

Anyway, we can get there from our house with a short piece of bike lane and then the rest is all bike path.  Pretty decent area we live in for biking access and we are most thankful for that.

Had to fix a flat on the way over.

Turtles in little bayou.

Riders on the bridge.
